Javea is a small resort on the Northern Costa Blanca. It lies in the shadow of the magnificent Montgo mountain, known for itâs resemblance of an elephant. Along with the spectacular mountain views there is a golden sandy beach and many coves in the Javea area where you can get the true Mediterranean experience.
Javea is a popular tourist destination for Northern Europeans. There are a few hotels, but mainly the area caters for self catering villa and apartment holidays. There are few if any package holidays which means the area does not have the usual lager louts often found in the larger Spanish resorts. If you fancy a day trip to such a town, Benidorm is about forty minutes drive away, where you can find English pubs and kiss me quick hats!
Due to the many years of self catering holiday visitors, Javea has the infrastructure to ensure your every need is catered for. Javea has several large and small supermarkets, many bars and restaurants and English speaking locals.
Javea is made up of three distinct areas which are all special in their differing ways.
The Old Town of Javea
The historic old town of Javea has traditional Spanish architecture and customs. The old town is renowned for its 2 week long fiestas in June, where you can join in the fun 24 hours a day. Fiestas are a major part of Spanish life, so if you are not a fan of fireworks avoid Javea at fiesta time!
In Javea old town there is a traditional indoor municipal market where you can buy good quality fruit, vegetables and meats and a weekly market held on Thursday morning selling pretty much everything. If you are having a self catering villa holiday these markets are a must. The food is much fresher and cheaper than the local supermarkets.
For an enjoyable day you can stroll around Javea's cobbled narrow streets sampling the local wine and tapas in the many small bars and restaurants. If you are lucky you may stumble upon a wedding in the church square. These are dramatic events, with lavish clothes and accompanied by thunder claps of fire crackers.
The Port of Javea
A few minutes drive or a twenty minute walk from the Old Town you arrive in the port. The port is very attractive with its promenade along the sea front with sculptures from local artists and quiet bars and restaurants.
Javea port is a working fishing port and you can see the daily catch arrive, or sample the fresh fish in the local restaurants. For the more adventurous you climb the hill to the lighthouse where you can see the fabulous views across the bay.
A twenty minute walk along the coast past several beach bars takes you to the main beach area of Javea called the Arenal.
The Arenal Beach of Javea
The beach area of Javea is where most holiday makers gravitate to. There is a large golden beach that offers traditional beach style holidays. It is great for kids as the sea slopes gentle and in the summer months a platform is set out at sea for diving and general fun and games. Keeping the kids occupied free of charge for many hours!
Along the beach there is a wide selection of bars and restaurants catering for all requirements, from a swanky Spanish fish restaurant to burger and chips in a snack bar.
